Teen Devotion: True Faith
Scripture Reading: John 3:16-18, Romans 10:17
Heidelberg Catechism, Lord’s Day 7:
- Q20: Are all men, then, saved by Christ just as they perished through Adam?
- A: Only those are saved who by a true faith are grafted into Christ and accept all his benefits.
- Q21: What is true faith?
- A: True faith is a sure knowledge whereby I accept as true all that God has revealed to us in his Word. At the same time, it is a firm confidence that not only to others, but also to me, God has granted forgiveness of sins, everlasting righteousness, and salvation, out of mere grace, only for the sake of Christ’s merits. This faith the Holy Spirit works in my heart by the gospel.
Reflection:
Hey there! Today, we’re diving into what it means to have true faith. The Heidelberg Catechism teaches us that not everyone is automatically saved by Christ. Instead, salvation is for those who have true faith.
So, what is true faith? It’s more than just knowing about God or believing He exists. True faith is a deep, personal trust in God and His promises. It’s believing that Jesus died for your sins and rose again, giving you eternal life. This faith isn’t something we can muster up on our own; it’s a gift from the Holy Spirit, who works in our hearts through the gospel.
Think About It:
- Knowledge and Trust: True faith involves both knowing God’s Word and trusting in His promises. How can you grow in your knowledge of the Bible? How can you deepen your trust in God?
- Personal Relationship: Faith is personal. It’s about knowing that Jesus died for you and that you are forgiven. How does this personal aspect of faith change the way you live?
- Holy Spirit’s Work: Remember, faith is a gift from the Holy Spirit. How can you be more open to the Holy Spirit’s work in your life?
Prayer:
Dear God, thank You for the gift of faith. Help me to grow in my knowledge of Your Word and to trust in Your promises. Thank You for sending Jesus to die for my sins and for giving me eternal life. Holy Spirit, work in my heart and help me to live out my faith every day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Feel free to reflect on these questions and share your thoughts with friends or family. Have a blessed day! 😊
