Heidelberg Catechism Question 49:
### Trusting in Christ’s Ascension
#### Bible Reading
* “And He [Christ] himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by His wounds you have been healed.” – 1 Peter 2:24 (NIV)
#### Heidelberg Catechism Question 49
* **Q49:** What benefit do we receive from Christ’s ascension into heaven?
* **Answer:** First, that He is our Advocate in the presence of His Father in heaven. Second, that we have our flesh in heaven as a sure pledge that He, as the Head, will also take us, His members, up to Himself. Third, that He sends us His Spirit as an earnest, by whose power we seek the things which are above, where Christ sits on the right hand of God, and not things on the earth.
#### Devotional:
**Finding Hope in Christ’s Ascension**
Life can feel like a roller coaster, filled with ups and downs. As teens, you face countless challenges: school pressures, friendships, family dynamics, and personal struggles. Sometimes it feels overwhelming, and it’s easy to lose sight of hope.
The Heidelberg Catechism reminds us of an incredible truth: Jesus Christ ascended into heaven for our benefit. It wasn’t just a farewell; it was a powerful act that has lasting significance for us today.
1. **Christ as Our Advocate:** Imagine having the most incredible lawyer in heaven who always has your back. Jesus stands before God the Father, pleading on our behalf. When you mess up or feel like you’re not enough, remember that Jesus is there, advocating for you.
2. **A Future Promise:** Christ’s ascension is a guarantee that we, too, will be with Him one day. It’s a reminder that our struggles here on earth are temporary. There’s a promise of a future filled with hope, peace, and eternal joy with Him.
3. **Empowered by the Holy Spirit:** Jesus didn’t leave us to figure things out on our own. He sent the Holy Spirit to be our guide, comforter, and source of strength. When you face tough times, seek the Spirit’s guidance. He empowers us to rise above earthly troubles and focus on heavenly truths.
#### Reflection:
Think about a challenge you’re facing right now. How does knowing that Jesus is advocating for you change your perspective? In what ways can you seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit in your daily life?
#### Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for Your ascension and the promise that we will be with You one day. Help me to remember that You are always advocating for me and that the Holy Spirit is my guide and comforter. Empower me to seek the things above and not be consumed by earthly worries. Amen.
### Remember:
In every high and low, Christ is with you, advocating for you, and preparing a place for you in heaven. You are never alone!
Feel free to reflect on these thoughts and apply them in your daily life! 😊
