QUESTION 1 OF H C

A short devotion for teenagers based on Question 1 of the Heidelberg Catechism:

Title: Belonging to Jesus

Scripture: Romans 14:8 – “If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.”

Devotion:

Hey there! Have you ever felt lost or unsure about where you belong? It’s a common feeling, especially during the teenage years. But here’s some amazing news from the Heidelberg Catechism that can bring you comfort and assurance.

Question 1 of the Heidelberg Catechism asks: What is your only comfort in life and in death? The answer is profound: That I am not my own, but belong—body and soul, in life and in death—to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ.

This means that no matter what happens in your life, you belong to Jesus. He loves you so much that He gave His life for you. Because of His sacrifice, you are completely forgiven and set free from the power of sin and the devil. Isn’t that incredible?

Think about it: Jesus cares for you so deeply that not even a single hair can fall from your head without His knowledge. Everything in your life is under His loving control, and He promises to work all things for your good.

So, when you face challenges, remember that you are not alone. Jesus is with you, guiding and protecting you. Your identity is secure in Him. You are His, and He is yours forever.

Prayer:

Dear Jesus, thank You for loving me and making me Yours. Help me to remember that I belong to You, no matter what happens. Give me the strength to trust You and live for You every day. Amen.
