**Washed Clean: A Devotion on Heidelberg Catechism Q&A *

**Scripture Reading:**

*”He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.”* — Titus 3:5

**Heidelberg Catechism Q&A 69:**

**Q. How does holy baptism signify and seal to you that the one sacrifice of Christ on the cross benefits you?**

**A. In this way: Christ instituted this outward washing and with it gave the promise that, as surely as water washes away the dirt from the body, so certainly his blood and Spirit wash away the impurity of my soul, that is, all my sins.**

### **Reflection:**

Imagine coming home after a long day of playing sports or working outside. You’re covered in dirt, sweat, and grime. The first thing you want to do is take a shower—to wash away everything that makes you feel unclean.

Baptism is a powerful picture of this cleansing, but it’s not just about physical water. It points to something much deeper—the washing away of our sins through Jesus Christ. Just as water removes dirt from our bodies, Christ’s blood and Spirit cleanse our souls.

This truth is not just symbolic; it’s a **promise**. When we see baptism, we are reminded that Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross is **real and effective** for us. His blood washes away our guilt, and His Spirit renews us, making us new creations in Him.

**Application:**

  1. **Remember Your Baptism** – If you’ve been baptized, reflect on what it means. It’s not just a ritual; it’s a sign that Christ has cleansed you.
  2. **Live in the Renewal of the Spirit** – Being washed by Christ means we are called to live differently. How can you reflect His holiness in your daily life?
  3. **Trust in His Promise** – When you struggle with guilt or doubt, remember that Christ’s cleansing is **certain**. You are washed, forgiven, and made new.

### **Prayer:**

Lord Jesus, thank You for washing away my sins through Your sacrifice. Help me to live in the renewal of Your Spirit, trusting in Your promise. May my life reflect the purity and holiness You have given me. Amen.
